Health services celebrate millions of vaxes

Western Health and Monash Health each celebrated their one millionth COVID-19 community vaccination milestone in mid-October.

To recognise the achievement and thank the staff who worked so hard to vaccinate the western suburbs over many months, Western Health delivered 500 cupcakes to each of the four main vaccination hubs at Melbourne Showgrounds, Eagle Stadium, Sunshine Hospital and Melton West.

‘We couldn’t be prouder of the teams at all of our hubs who have worked tirelessly these last few months to get the jab done,’ said West Metro COVID-19 vaccination program project director Lisa Smith.

‘We also want to congratulate everyone in the west who has rolled up their sleeves and helped us achieve this.

‘Thank you for doing your bit to protect yourself and your community.’

When COVID-19 arrived in Australia in 2020, Monash Health quickly set up programs to prevent and respond to the spread in the south-east suburbs and along the Peninsula.

Monash Health south east public health unit director Rhonda Stuart said the one million vaccine doses milestone in that area was a testament to community desire to work together to keep people safe.

‘Every single COVID-19 vaccination of the one million doses administered is helping us pave the pathway back to the life we all know and cherish,’ Professor Stuart said.

‘To everyone who plays a role at the health services, hospitals, local councils and community leaders supporting the community to be vaccinated… thank you for your ongoing and outstanding work.

‘The enthusiasm we continue to see from people booking their vaccination appointments or walking in to one of our pop-up clinics is incredible and we look forward to welcoming the many people to come.’
